Protecting, conserving, and enhancing natural resources in Hood River County and beyond

We help landowners, managers, and residents improve and sustain natural resources in Hood River County.

The Hood River Soil & Water Conservation District (HRSWCD) is one of 45 conservation districts in Oregon established to promote and enhance our natural resources. To do so, the District helps landowners employ a wide variety of conservation techniques and management practices designed to protect, conserve, and enhance natural resources. Work is done entirely on a voluntary, non-regulatory basis.

Technical Assistance

We help Hood River County residents better manage their land for the conservation of natural resources. The HRSWCD has helped landowners, residents, and others obtain technical and financial assistance to implement a myriad of projects including:

  • installing efficient irrigation systems
  • fencing livestock out of waterways
  • planting native trees and shrubs along streams
  • enhancing riparian habitat
  • improving fish habitat and restoring fish passage
  • identifying and treating invasive weeds
  • providing educational training opportunities
  • monitoring stream and habitat conditions
